Mattupetty located at a distance of around 13 km from Munnar, is a serene city that is extremely popular for the Dam and Mattupetty Reservoir. Built in the middle of hills, the main objective of this dam is to store water for hydroelectric projects. One of the main tourist attractions in Munnar, the Mattupetty Dam is the perfect place to enjoy pleasant views of the surroundings. The lake created from the dam offers boat rides for both tourists and locals to explore the serene surroundings. You can also see herds of elephants quenching their thirst on the shore of the lake.
Mattupetty Dairy Farm
The town of Mattupetty is also famous for an Indo-Swiss farm, The Mattupetty Dairy Farm. Fall under the Indo-Swiss livestock project and managed by the Kerala Livestock Development Board (KLDB) Ltd, this is an exceptionally specialized dairy farm, where new varieties of livestock are developed scientifically and more than 400 first-rate animals are bred along with the breeding of cows and bulls. The project was launched in 1963.
The exuberant farm extends over an area of 191 hectares of land. This farm is open every day of the week and can be visited from 09:00 a.m. at 11:00 p.m. and after 02:00 p.m. to -02: 30 p.m. Pay a negligible amount of INR 5 as a fee to visit the dairy farm.
