Kemmanagundi is also known as KR Hills, after King Mysore Krishnaraja Wodeyar IV. Hypnotized by the beauty of the place, he made Kemmangundi his summer retreat. There is a hill in the shape of a horse’s head. In Kannada, a horse is called Kudre and the word kannada for face is Mukha. Therefore, by combining these two words, it becomes Kudremukh or the face of a horse. The park is big. There are four sub-ranges here. The entire region is covered with dense forests. This region is under the aegis of the world’s number one priority for tiger conservation.
