Kudremukh is one of the most popular tourist spots in Chikmagalur, boasting fascinating mountains, pristine waterfalls and lush landscapes. It is an ideal place for nature lovers, where they have the chance to rest in the midst of the alluring beauty of nature, away from the bustling city life.
A holiday at Kudremukh National Park is a different experience from all places to visit in Chikmagalur. This place is about 96 km from the town of Chikmagalur. Located in the pristine surroundings of the Western Ghats, the park is located at an altitude of about 1800 meters above sea level. This high altitude has many advantages. One of them is the climatic condition of this place. The national park has a serene and mild climate even during the hardest summers of the state.
There is a hill in the shape of a horse’s head. In Kannada, a horse is called Kudre and the word kannada for face is Mukha. Therefore, by combining these two words, it becomes Kudremukh or the face of a horse. The park is big. There are four sub-ranges here. The entire region is covered with dense forests. There are also tea and coffee plantations.
This region is under the aegis of the world’s number one priority for tiger conservation. Given the impressive flora and fauna of this place during a tourist expedition to Chikmagalur, this is not surprising. Three rivers originate in Kudremukh National Park. These include Tunga, Bhadra and Nethravati. There is an ancient cave in the park to be visited by the devotees of the goddess Bhagavati. In this cave, his statue was erected. Hundreds of pilgrims come here to offer their prayers.
In terms of flora, the park is home to an impressive store of the best species of plants and flowers among the tourist spots of Chikmagalur. The medicinal plant of eucalyptus is here in abundance. Grevillea Robusta is another species of flora found in large numbers in the park. The fauna is not lacking either. The park is a complete jungle. In addition to tigers, there are several other wild animals such as leopards, bears and gaurs. There are enough deer barking here. The spotted deer is omnipresent.
