Shantadurga Temple

Shantadurga Temple has one of the largest temple complexes found in Goa. It is dedicated to Goddess Durga (one of the patron deities in Gaud Saraswat). The Shantadurga goddess is Vishnu-Shiva’s mediator. Mahapanchami is celebrated by the presence of a golden palki, a palanquin on which the deity rides. This temple is located at the foothill of Kavlem village, Ponda Taluka.

The Shanta Durga Temple is composed of one temple and three smaller ones with a pyramidal roof, a dome, and the main temple. These temples’ floors and pillars are made of Kashmir stone. It was constructed around 1715 AD. After the Portuguese took control of the state, the temple was moved to its current location. It is a popular tourist attraction because of its beautiful Indo-Portuguese temple architecture and the impressive idol of the deity. The temple complex is located on a hill that offers stunning views of the surrounding area. The temple has an attractive old charm look thanks to the vibrant combination of white, peach, and maroon. Nayan Manohar Deepstambh (a second attraction) is also worth mentioning. It is beautifully lit during festivals, and the beauty is unrivaled
