Bhagwan Mahavir Wildlife Sanctuary is the largest Sanctuary for wildlife in Goa, covering 240 km2. This Sanctuary is located at the Western Ghats’ foothills and provides refuge for many species of animals and plants. This Sanctuary also has many hiking trails and viewpoints. This wildlife century was established under the Wildlife Act in 1999. The primary purpose of the Bhagwan Mahavir wildlife sanctuary is to protect the natural resources in the Western Ghats. The Sanctuary’s most famous attraction is the Dudhsagar Falls. This area was initially called the Mollem Game sanctuary. It was designated a wildlife sanctuary at the end of 1969. In 1978, the park became a national park. It was later renamed the Mollem National Park and then the Bhagwan Mahavir wildlife sanctuary. The illegal mining of iron or manganese had a devastating effect on the park in the early 2000s.

The government has been pursuing all private land within the sanctuary area to buy it. This Sanctuary is home to the most significant number of protected wildlife. You will find many species of rare animals at this Sanctuary, including Pythons and Cobras, Slender Toris, Jungle Cats, and Elephants, as well as avian Birds and other exotics.
