Baba Budangiri Also known as Chandra Drona Parvatha, Datta Peeta has several high mountain altitudes. Located in the Baba Budan Giri range, it is a popular tourist destination. The mountain bears the name of the Muslim saint Baba Budan. The Baba Budangiri range is very important in Chikmagalur. It is a picturesque destination with many tourist attractions. Mullayanagiri is the highest peak of this region. This place is about 1900 meters high.At a distance of 29 km from Kemmanagundi and 36 km from Chikmagalur, Baba Budangiri (also known as Dattagiri & Chandra Drona Parvatha) is a mountain in the Baba Budan Range in the Chikmagalur District of Karnataka. At an altitude of 1895 m, it is one of the best places for trekking in Karnataka and one of the best places to visit as part of a two-day tour from Bangalore. It is also one of the main sites to visit during the trip to Chikmagalur. Baba Budangiri owes its name to the Muslim saint Baba Budan who resided here. Baba Budan was a 17th century Sufi saint from Arabia in India to spread the message of Islam and peace. According to legend, he introduced coffee to India by bringing beans from the port of Mocha, Yemen, in 1670 AD. This place is also important for Hindus like Dattatreya Peetha. It is believed that a cave was the residence of Sri Dattatreya Swamy. An annual jatra or urs, which is held three days after the holi festival according to the Hindu calendar, attends both Hindu and MuslimThe main peaks of this chain are Mulliyangiri and Baba Budangiri. Together, these peaks are known as the Chandra Drona mountain range, as they naturally form the shape of a crescent moon. Mullayanagiri (20 km from Chikmagalur, on Baba Budangiri Road) is the highest peak of the Baba Budangiri Range with an altitude of 1950 meters (the highest peak in Karnataka). The hills of Baba Budangiri are known for their range of distinct forests and are also popular for hiking and trekking. There is a famous hiking trail between Mullayanagiri and Baba Budangiri. Adventure seekers can wander through the forest to visit the historic Deviramma Betta Sanctuary. In addition, hills such as Sitalayanna Giri offer panoramic views of the surrounding mountains. Unique mountain flowers called kurinji bloom in these mountains once every 12 years. The last time this show happened was in 2006. A short distance from Budangiri Hill are three popular waterfalls: Gada Theertha, Kamana Theertha and Nellikayi Theertha. According to mythology, Gada Theertha was created by Prince Pandava Bhima with his gada to quench his mother’s thirst during their exile. Nellikayi Theertha is formed by the famous waterfalls of Manikya Dhara. The most popular trekking routes include Baba Budangiri at Mullayanagiri (12 km), Budangiri at Gaalikere (4 km), Budangiri at Manikyadhara Falls (7 km), Attigudi Junction at Baba Budangiri (6 km).
