Wat Benchamabophit  Dusitvanaram or the marble temple is considered one of the most magnificent temples in Thailand. It is designed by Prince Naris, son of King Rama IV, who was a great architect at that time. The temple was created in a traditional Thai symmetrical style and uses fine marble from Italy as a building material.

One of the most beautiful temples of Bangkok is Wat Benchamabophit, also called “marble temple” or Wat Ben. As it is classified as a first class royal temple, it is also a temple of major importance.

The official name of the temple is Wat Benchamabophit Dusitwanaram, which means “the monastery of the fifth king near the palace Dusit”, the fifth king being King Chulalongkorn the Great.

The interior of the temple was mixed in architecture with Thai and European influences and is therefore a model of a modern Thai temple. Most interior decorations are extremely dominated by a European palace, such as red carpets, stained glass windows on the wall, gold-on-white motif motifs and the royal blue wall behind the central Buddha image. All this comes from King Rama V who was really in love with Europe. This can also be seen at Dusit Palacea
