This Buddhist temple has existed since the 17th century and has been renamed and renovated many times. It was originally imagined by King Taksin in 1768, when he overtook it at dawn. He then renovated and renamed Wat Cheng – which was originally the Emerald Buddha before being transferred to the royal palace. The temple’s most emblematic aspect, its prangs, was built only during Rama’s period of influence.
One of the best moments to admire the Wat Arun temple is on the east side of the river at sunset or at sunset, when the light is reflected on its central spire covered with colored porcelain and surmounted by a trident with seven branches , the “trident of Shiva” and along the base of the trident are figures of ancient Chinese soldiers with animals.
