Barren Island, as the name implies, is completely inanimate and devoid of any living human being, except for some animals and birds such as goats, bats, flying foxes and rats. This island has the only active volcano in India that has erupted twice in the last years of 1991 and 1994. Since then, the volcano has erupted more than six times and a recent eruption occurred on May 2, 2006. However, if you want to start a tour around the island, you must apply forest department. The island can be visited by rented boats / ferries, but visitors are limited to land. You can also take a plate tour around the island and back.
