Valley of Flowers Flora

The Valley of Flowers is the central area of ​​the Nanda Devi Biosphere Reserve. There are about 520 high-altitude plants, including various flowering plants and rare medicinal plants. Herbal plants, namely Aconitum heterophyllum, Afalconeri, Arnebia benthamii, Dactylorhiza hatagirea, Gymnadenia orchids, Megacarpa polyandra, Picrorhiza Kuruma, and Taxus wallichiana dominate the area.
A research nursery for the promotion of these rare medicinal herbs was created near the entrance in Musadhar. Among the flowering plants found in this region are orchids, marigolds, poppies, daisies, primroses, and anemones.
Parts of the valley of the flowers are covered with subalpine forests of birch and rhododendron. Flowering plants represent about 490 of the 520 species listed in this national park.

The valley of the flowers is rich in fauna, but its density is not too high. All found animals are rare and or endangered. Among the most frequently encountered animals is tahr, while serow, goral, musk deer, and bharal are rare. Other names include snow leopard, musk deer, red fox, common langur, bharal, serow, Himalayan black bear, Himalayan brown bear, and pica.
Professor CP Kala’s research has identified 13 species. Still, only 9 of them have been sighted by him, namely the gray langur, Semnopithecus entellus, the flying squirrel Petaurista petaurista, the black bear of the Himalayas, Ursus thibetanus, Red fox Vulpes vulpes, Himalayan Musteas sibirica, Himalayan marten Martes ligula, Himalayan goral Naemorhedus goral, Himalayan musk deer, Moschus leucogaster, etc.
The most frequently observed birds are lammergeier Gypaetus barbatus, Himalayan vulture, Gyps himalayensis, yellow-billed and red-billed crab, etc., common Mormon Papilio polytene Romulus are also found.
