Mangueshi Temple
Mangueshi Temple is one of the most famous temples in Goa. It has an unmatched grandeur that attracts devotees from all over the world. The Goan-style architecture is alive here, keeping pace with history. Deepastambha is a unique 7-story octagonal lamp tower. It is white painted with golden arches. It’s worth seeing at night. This temple is a must-see tourist spot in North Goa. One should drive to it for both respect and admiration of its old architecture. It was built in honor of Bhagwan Menguesh, the Kuldevata for Gaud Saraswat Brahmins.
This deity is believed by many to be Lord Shiva’s incarnation. Its name derives from “Mam Girisha,” the words Goddess Parvati used when Lord Shiva attempted to scare her by taking on the shape of a Tiger.Along with many other deities, the Mangeshi Temple Complex contains shrines to Goddess Parvati or Lord Ganesha. The Shiva Linga is the symbol of Lord Shiva. This Mangesh linga was consecrated on Mongir Mountain along the banks of Bhagirathi by Lord Brahma. The temple’s stunning architecture, including grand domes and a large water tank, dates back to the 450-year-old temple.
