Munnar is one of the famous hill stations which are contributed to the popularity of Kerala as a world famous tourist destination among local tourists and foreigners. The hill station of Munnar is located between the confluence of Muthirapuzha, Nallathanni and Kundala mountain streams and balanced about 1600 meter above the sea level. This national park is located about 15 km from Munnar. Nilgiri Tahr is its endangered inhabitant for which this park is famous for. This park is spread over 97 square kilometers. The rare species of butterflies, birds and animals are the main part of this national park. As a great place of trekking, the park offers a breathtaking view of tea plantations and the rolling hills caressed by the blankets of mists. 2. Anamudi Peak: This peak is located inside the Eravikulam National Park. The height of the peak is about 2700 meter being the highest peak of Southern India. The Forest and Wildlife Authorities of Eravikulam grants the permission for trekking in the peak. 3. Mattupetty: Located about 13 km away from the town of Munnar, Mattupetty is another important tourist attraction. Located at the height of 1700 m above the sea level, Mattupetty is famous especially for its storage masonry dam and the beautiful lake. Mattupetty Lake is known for its enjoyable boat riding by which one can enjoy the pleasant view of surrounding hills and landscape. There is a dairy farm owned by the Indo-Swiss Livestock Project where you can come and see the different breeds of cows. Pallivasal: This is located about 3 km from Chithirapuram, Munnar. Pallivasal is the home to first Hydro-electric power project of Kerala. This is a venue of ample of scenic beauties which make it an ideal picnic spot for the local and foreign visitors. 5. Chinnakanal: Chinnakanal is enriched with the breathtaking views of Western Ghat ranges. Chinnakanal and the waterfalls are located nearby Munnar. These waterfalls are so called Powerhouse Waterfalls that are cascade down 2000 meter above the sea level. 6. Top Station: As the name suggests, the Top Station is located at the highest point on Munnar – Kodaikanal road. This is located 1700 m above the sea level. Top Station welcomes the tourists to see the panoramic view. To enjoy the blooming of Neelkurinji flowers, this is one of the famous tourist spots of Munnar. 7. Tata Tea Museum: When it comes to know everything about the origin and evolution of tea plantations, Tata Tea museum was opened some years ago in Munnar.
